What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are some of the core beliefs of Citizens of Heaven Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

Baptism

We believe in baptism through immersion and that it is an act of obedience that symbolizes a believer's faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism is a testimony to the world that we as followers of Jesus have died to our sins and have been raised to new life found only in Jesus Christ. We believe baptism is a pre-requisite to becoming a covenant member of Citizens Church.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit who are equal in glory, majesty, authority, and divinity. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

JEsus christ

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself. Jesus is God in the flesh, conceived by a virgin, both fully God and fully man, who came to dwell among humanity.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God, the third person of theTrinity. He is given as a gift to all who have heard the word of Truth, empowers the believer for ministry, and is the seal that guarantees our salvation.

humanity

We believe that all of mankind are created in God's image and that He created us to reflect His image to the world. Because humanity was created in His image, we believe that we are called to live our lives in a way that points the rest of creation to His infinite worth and beauty. We believe that God intentionally created humans as male and female which is intricately connected to being created in His image.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone, the only means of reconciliation to God.

SCRipture

We believe the Bible is God's Word, written by men, divinely inspired, and His revelation of Himself to man. We believe that all of Scripture is completely true and trustworthy. All Scripture is a testimony to Jesus Christ and it teaches us how to have a relationship with Him, worship Him, and bring glory to Him.

Sin

Sin is a deviation from God's purpose or design. The very first sin was committed in the garden by Adam and Eve when they chose not to trust God and to reject the purpose for which He had created them. As a result of rejecting God, all humanity, beginning with Adam and Eve, face the judgment of death because of sin. Sin leads to eternal separation from God.

Stewardship

We believe that giving is an act of worship. Giving is how we acknowledge God's ownership and how we express thanks for providing for us. Because it is an act of worship, we believe that giving should be done with a cheerful and willing heart. We believe that we are called to give of both our time, treasure, and talents because ultimately everything that we have belongs to God and we are simply stewards of all of it.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Because the church is the physical manifestation of His presence to the world, it is made up of those who have chosen to identify with Jesus. Those who have chosen to identify with Jesus are known through baptism, which symbolizes that conscious decision to follow after Him.
